Situated in Nairobi’s central business district next to Jamia Mosque, the McMillan Memorial Library is the oldest library in Nairobi and the second oldest in Kenya after the Seif bin Salim Library in Mombasa. McMillan Memorial Library provides a serene quiet environment for studying if you are ever in the CBD. It does require membership for which a fee is paid. The architecture is a neo-classical design featuring granite-clad columns along the façade and a grand white marble trapezoidal stairway leading up to the portico. There are two lion statues guarding either side of the entrance. The external walls are constructed of smooth rendered stone under a flat roof and the internal walls are clad in polished timber panels.
