The 1,011 km2 arid grassland plains to the north of the Marsabit Reserve, is a buffer and wildlife dispersal area. The overall goal of Songa and the 2 adjacent conservancies is to achieve sustainable use of natural resources and ‘optimizing ecological functions’, especially: water, grazing, and energy in this area of northern Kenya, which is centred around Marsabit Reserve.
