The Sikh temple is located about 170km from Kenya’s Capital, Nairobi. It is on the Nairobi Mombasa Highway and was built in 1926 by the Sikhs who were part of the construction team that built the Lunatic Express railway line from Kenya to Uganda. The 5000 square meter Gurdwara (Sikh House) is a holy Sikh shrine that is mainly used for peaceful meditation and welcoming people from all walks of life and religions. It has a huge dining area and provides free food (Langar) 24 hours a day courtesy of the founder Guru Nanak. There are also free rooms with beds available for tourists who are allowed to stay up to two nights.
