River Dua

River Dua 1

Mandera’s drainage is to a vast extent ‘centred’ on River Daua. All the streams are intermittent excepting the Daua River which rises in the Ethiopian Highlands. River Daua covers a distance of 160 kms across Mandera, along the border, and through Libehia Malkamari, Rhamu, Dimti and in Khalalio Townships. The riverine areas of Rhamu, Kalicha, Garissa, Shantolei and Rhamu Dimtu are using the beyond price water in irrigation projects: to grow fruits cowpeas, onion, pawpaw, citrus bananas, tomatoes, and melons.
