Ndakaini Dam

Ndakaini dam's construction began in 1988 when the Kenyan government compelled the acquisition of approximately 1,200 acres of land to make room for the construction of the dam, which would supply portable water to the residents of Nairobi City and its environs. The Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Company operates the Ndakaini dam, which is owned by Athi.

The dam's water is conveyed through a network of tunnels that run from the dam, tapping the Kiama and Kimakia rivers and diverting the flows to the Chania River at the Mwagu Outfall. Water is tapped from the Chania River at Mwagu and transported via tunnel to the Mataara chamber, where it is piped to the Ngethu water production plant.
