Nandi Rainforests
The North Nandi Forest, the South Nandi Forest, and the North Tinderet Forest are the three major forests in Nandi County. They are all important reserves and refuges for plants and animals, many of which are endangered. The North and South Nandi forests are particularly significant because they are a unique mid-altitude ecosystem transitional in composition between central African equatorial forests. The indigenous South Nandi Forest covers 27,000 hectares and is a biodiversity hotspot as well as an important birding area on a global scale (IBA).
