Nandi Rainforests

Nandi Rainforests 1

Nandi county has three major forests; the North Nandi Forest, the South Nandi Forest, and the North Tinderet Forest. All of them are important reserves and refuges for plants and animals, many of them endangered species. The North and South Nandi forests are particularly important in that they are a unique mid-altitude ecosystem transitional in composition between the equatorial forests of central Africa. The indigenous South Nandi Forest is 27,000 hectares in size and is a biodiversity hotspot and recognized internationally as an important birding area (IBA).
