Malka Mari was gazetted in 1989 and is an IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). Malka Mari National Park is situated along the banks of Daua River on the Kenya – Ethiopia border. It is approximately 1,500km2 in size and is located on the Mandera Plateau in the extreme north of Kenya. It has a high concentration of wildlife and plants with some plants being endemic to the area. The park is mostly semi-arid bushland and scrubby grassland with riparian woodland along the river.
