Lake Kenyatta, also Lake Mukunganya, is one of the lesser known lakes in Kenya and, one of the few fresh water lakes in Coast Region. The lake is located in Lamu County, approximately 2.5 kilometres southwest of the town of Mpeketoni and 50 kilometres, by road, southwest of the port city of Lamu.
The lake supports herds of hippopotamus, zebra, monkeys, waterbuck, buffalo and warthog. The lake is marked by its indigenous trees and shrubs used by the natives for various uses. Lake Kenyatta has a rich ecosystem including over 140 recorded bird species and varied marine life including tilapia, clarias, protopteridae and hippos, bucks, and plains game.
