Lake Elmentaita
Lake Elementaita is a small 18-square-kilometer shallow soda lake located roughly halfway between Naivasha and Nakuru, just off the main road, in the shadow of an impressively peaked hill known locally by the Masai as the 'Sleeping Warrior.' Elmenteita is now a major breeding site for the great white pelican in Kenya. In 2005, it was designated as a RAMSAR wetland of international significance. (The RAMSAR treaty, signed in 1971, ensures wetland conservation.)
