Located a few Kilometres from Gilgil town, Lake Elementaita is one of the most beautiful Lakes on the floor of Rift-Valley.
Explore the Lake on foot to see birds, gazelles, elands, warthogs, and take pictures of the scenery. At the southern end of the lake are the “Kekopey” hot springs, in which the Tilapia grahami breed.
Very popular for bathing, the local Maasai claim that it can cure AIDS. The reed beds nearby are fishing grounds for night herons and pelicans. Lake Elementaita has a population of more than 40,000 flamingoes, but their number increases to more than 200,000 when food is abundant. The lake also has a resident flock of about 3,000 pelicans. Visitors to this area need not carry packed lunch because there are many good hotels near the lake.
