Kisumu Impala Sanctuary
Branded as ‘a lakeshore walks with Impalas’, this astounding facility gazetted in 1992 was ideally created to protect the scarce population of the remaining impalas. The facility is a key site for ecology, wildlife, and education. The sanctuary houses Maasai lions, African leopards, guinea fowls, Tanzanian Cheaters and many species of snake, monitor lizard, dragonfly and butterflies similarly present.
The Sanctuary boasts of all the Big five games except the elephant. It also allows convenient open grazing for the Hippopotamus population, while providing refuge for the sitatunga antelope in the swamps nearby. Bask and enjoy the glorious sunsets on the shores of the Great Lake Victoria visible from The Sundowner tower, one of four picnic sites available when visiting the sanctuary.
