Situated in Nandi County, King’wal Swamp is a massive wetland on the catchments of Yala River. The wetland (swamp) is popular as a habitat for rare Sitatunga, cran and wetland forest of Syzygium spps. The swap is said to have the largest population of Sitatunga in the world (about 140) of the endangered Sitatunga – a semi-aquatic antelope with webbed feet that allow it to walk on soft mud. The swamp is also the home of a variety of birds, small cats, plenty of reptiles and amphibians.
