Often labeled as the ‘Dancing stones of Namoratunga,’ this site is made of a small cluster of attractive cylindrical stones beside the Lodwar-Kalokol Road close to the western shore of Lake Turkana. Namoratunga is widely believed to have been a stellar observatory many years ago. Looking from afar, you won’t notice any difference from large sacks of charcoal, but when you get up close, most of the rock engravings have beautiful geometric designs. This site is well known as the first archaeological site to be discovered in Sub-Saharan Africa.
