Mwea National Reserve is one of the most epic reserves in Mbeere District bordering Kirinyaga County. The reserve’s landscape is made up of gently rolling plains covered by Savanna grasslands and bushy vegetation as well as scattered trees. Its most dominant trees and shrubs include; acacia species and Commiphora. There are dense bushes and trees along the water’s edge. The Reserve provides a home for elephant, buffalo, impala, lesser kudu, baboon, velvet and Sykes’ monkeys, hippos and crocodiles in the rivers and the dam.
