Established in 1959 as the Mutejwa Forest Reserve, this 13.76 km2 park in the forest that lines up along the Nithi River is best known for a variety of wildlife;  most notably antelopes monkeys. The reserve is served by great prospects to see lots of wildlife that include gazelles and ostriches, walks along the Nithi River, cave explorations and birding, hiking up the Mutejwa Hills which is the largest hill in the Tharaka and at its apex it serves as a viewing ledge.
