Elewak Ancient wells
Livestock is the most important natural resource and is the main stay of the economy of Mandera. Livestock 'grazing land' takes up a wide-ranging proportion of the rangeland resources. Of course, Mandera is a 'water-scarce-area' and the nomadic pastoralists have had to devise ingenious ways to keep the livestock hydrated. The Ancient Wells which date back to 17th and 18th centuries, some of which are almost 60 ft deep, are a salient lifeline for the livestock.
