The Ewaso Nyiro River runs for over 550 kms before it reaches the scenic bed of reeds nearby Habaswen in the southern area dubbed Lorian Swamp. The 151 km2 Lorian that means ‘swamp’ in the native Laigop dialect was first cited by William A. Chanler and Von V. Hohnel in 1898, who detailed: ‘of a great extent filled with high reeds.’
