In Kalamba village in Nzaui District, the first AIC Missionary church was constructed by Peter Cameron Scott in 1895. This Scottish missionary from America established other centres in Sakai, Kilungu and Kangundo, but it is the 30 by 14ft Church at Kalamba village that has given Makueni County a rich history in the emergence of Christianity in Kenya. In recognition of Peter Scott’s efforts to spread the gospel in this region, the then District Commissioner of Machakos offered him a government building in Kangundo to be converted to a church mission at a fee of Kshs.10 per year. He died in Kalamba, Nzaui on 4th December in 1896.
