Wajir is a county in the middle of the former North Eastern Province, it borders Somalia to the East and Ethiopia to the North West .Within Kenya it borders Garissa to the South and South West, Isiolo and Marsabit to the west and Mandera to the North and North East. Wajir County has a total of 440 Km gravelled roads, out of 5,280 Km road network. The rest of the roads are earthen and unclassified. The county has no tarmac road or rail network.
Wajir is 692 Kms from the Capital, Nairobi city by road, for travellers driving all the way to Wajir, the trip might take you about 12 hours. Using the Nairobi Hwy/Meru – Nairobi highway/Thika Rd/A2 all the way into Isiolo- Mandera road.

The County has an international airport in Wajir and seven airstrips (Habaswein, Khorof Harar, Wagalla, Buna, Bute, Tarbaj, and Diff). Flights to Wajir are available from Nairobi, Mombasa, Somali, as well as other international airports.
