How to get to Meru County
A drive from Nairobi will take approximately 3 hours to get to Meru town. You can also access Meru town from other towns; Nyeri-Nanyuki-Timau road, Nyeri-Embu-Meru road or the Nairobi- Makutano-Embu-Meru highway. The main means of public transport used is buses and passenger matatus and in some case car rentals for that that seek a comfier alternative.
Three air strips serve this region; Gaitu airstrip in Meru Central which has been improved to serve more flights, the Kinna airstrip inside Meru national park and another in Elsa Kopje luxury Safari tent – both used by privately serviced small aircrafts. The International Isiolo Airport is just 53kms from the Meru Township, is also a good alternative allowing you to explore the two counties.

Meru perfect county for exploring on road trips foot with an attraction site around every corner. Much of the town and its surrounding can be walked without trouble. If walking is a problem, there are plenty of Boda bodas & taxis to ride in.
Bus & Matatus – Operated by independent organizations popular know as Saccos, buses and matatus are the most affordable way to visit the around the county.
Just a few miles away from town you can explore the history and heritage of the Ameru, Camp or Hike and relax in one the local hotels. Because of the number of sights to see, some first-time visitors should start with an organized tour. Some things can be covered in depth, other are just useful for getting your bearings.
