Nyamira County is characterized by a hilly terrain, much of which is under cultivation that is supported by the heavy rains that are distributed throughout the year.

One of the prominent features in Nyamira is the Gucha River originating from the Kiabonyoru area near Nyamira Town. The Gucha catchment is located on the southwestern part of Lake Victoria drainage and which later down becomes a tributary of the greater Gucha – Migori River.

Although the upper part of the Gucha River has been heavily harnessed for water supply and development in Kisii and Nyamira Towns and recently Keroka Township, it remains one of its more memorable sights.  Among the highlights along Gucha River is the lovely Keera Falls.
